Transcribing sucks

So I finally finished transcribing my second 35 minute interview today during our lunch break. You wouldn't think something so short would take so long. Over the span of two days and three different typing/listening sessions I think the last interview took about four hours. Now it's not that I'm a slow typer, it's just that people talk a lot faster then you'd think...add on to that a thick spanish accent and an echoey room and it starts to become very difficult. So, anyway, it sucked.
Today was my preservation class. It's taught by the School of Library Science, and we are supposed to be learning how to preserve books. The class only meets six times for the whole semester. So far we've learned how to: erase pencil marks, tape tears in the page, color, mat pictures, fold mylar, create cradles for books on display, and mount artwork for display....so when I started this list it didn't seem like we'd learned much, but I guess two meetings from the end of the semester, it seems like more now. However, the first half (read 3.5 hours) of class we colored pictures and ate candy. It seems a little ridiculous to me that I'm receiving 3 graduate-level credits for attending this "class" but hey, if they want to give me credit for coloring then I say go ahead. We get an hour long lunch break between sessions and I usually spend mine reading/napping in an empty building across the quad. Today however, I had to transcribe the above interview and didn't get a lunch. Luckily I finished it, but unluckily I have yet to start on next week's assignments which consist of 200+ pages of Anthropological drivel. Maybe I'll skim it...
Patrick's grandparents came into town last night and stayed in our guest room. This morning we all got up at 6am (yes, we are insane) and went out to breakfast. This wouldn't have been too bad if I hadn't stayed up until nearly 2am transcribing....I then had class all day and am now exhausted....so maybe I'll take a nap while Patrick's at his Priesthood session.
I'm listening to Billy Idol's new CD. After meeting him in Austin and listening to him live, I figured we should at least have one of his albums. It's pretty good...I especially like the "Rat Race" and "Plastic Jesus" songs. You should definitely check them out.
