Name Poll - Please Respond!

Okay so I only have three weeks before this baby is due (I'm hoping it will come in two) and we're still no closer to choosing a name. So I was wondering if you could all answer this question along with your reasons if any...and tell your friends so they'll answer too! Which name do you like better and why:

1) James Patrick Thaden

2) William Patrick Thaden

I like both of them and can think of good and bad reasons to use either one, but what do you think? Inquiring minds want to know!

I like James Patrick. I think it rolls better.

But, William is also a good choice. Will is quite the popular name lately. And, my word verification is wmwkyk. And "wm" is short for "William." Maybe it's a sign? :)

My problem with James is that I can't picture a baby with that name...a little boy, teen and adult, totally, but not a baby. Plus if Patrick's sister has a boy she's naming it Joseph, so the three boys of this past year would be Joshua, James, and Joseph...but I guess I shouldn't base my kids name on what others choose to name their kids. I like William as a baby name, but looking into both of them it seems to be WAY more common then James both today and historically, even though James is generally higher on the popular baby names list. For example: there are 28 authors in the Hymnbook named William and only 9 named James...and looking at my geneaology yesterday there was one William at least for every ten names...and there were over 11,000 names...maybe one James for every 200 or so, if that. I think Patrick thinks William is kinda sissy...though he hasn't actually said that. Okay that's what I think...(today anyways), but don't let my opinions bias your answers!! :)

I like William, but mostly because I think the nick-name liam is really cool. I'm all about having nicknames they can go by.

Patrick says if we name him William it will be William, not Liam...he thinks Liam is even sissier than William I think. *shrug* So I don't know....although Liam means 'Helmet' and he does agree that would be pretty funny.

I like James better, unless you can convince Patrick to call him Liam for short. :D

I have hesitated posting because I really like them both and can't choose between them. I suppose if pushed I slightly like William more, for what it's worth!

Okay, I really do like James Patrick better but Kit says he likes William Patrick better (he thinks it has better flow - he likes the two syllable - two syllable and he's saying something about iambic pentameter but he's losing me... now he's saying something about Shakespeare?) Anyhoo, those are our votes.

OH, but if I say the whole name - James Patrick Thaden vs. William Patrick Thaden? (OH, see now Kit changes his vote!! He says James Patrick Thaden is better) but I was going to say William Patrick Thaden flows really nicely. Very nice, old fashioned... like a knight. :)

I think we just cancelled each other's votes out. I'll ask the kids.

And I think Joshua, James & Joseph would be a nice combination. Ours needs to be a boy because we are drawing a blank for girl names.

Mo votes "Dames" and Christopher votes William. Our family is no help, this is why we need a tiebreaker. :)

Heidi- I know what you mean about the last name changing things...Patrick noted that the baby won't really go by his full name throughout life, people will just call him William or James Thaden....they won't include the middle name. I hadn't thought about this and I think James Thaden and William Thaden sound like two totally different names then when you add the Patrick in. Isabelle has decided the baby's name is James, even when I argue that it's William...it's pretty funny...although she still calls him 'waa waa' sometimes too.

I like "James" better than "William" because I like "Jim" better than "Bill". (Not that your child will be called either of those nicknames, but you asked for a reason, and that's my reason.)

Thanks for your input Sarah and Andrea! I'm leaning more towards James today...but we'll see what tomorrow brings. ;) Andrea, you look kinda familiar...what year did you graduate highschool?

I think they both suck because names that common are lame and you should tell Patrick he's dumb. Plus I have a psycho cousin who's named James, so that name always creeps me out. I don't like the name William because it's far too common and also because that was the name Ethan's dad REALLY wanted for him (making him a 3rd generation William). So in conclusion, pick out some better names and tell Patrick that he can name the ones HE pops out. How about Logan Patrick? That's better!

And I stand by the fact that is you name him William I'll call him Spike. :)

I don't really like the name Logan...it sounds like a hick name to me...I picture a dirty kid with ripped jeans and a mullet. ;)
